Think of a trifle mounted on four brandy soaked biscuits. That's pretty much a Basset's ability to keep their balance. Some are agile and bouyant. Most are, IMO, long, large and easily trip over. They're not great at fancy stunts like walking across ladders laid flat. Their feet are pudgy, very big. Their toes can't easily curve and flex like dogs with thin feet can. My Frenchie can climb very well with her madly dextrous feet. He can't. So judge them by what they CAN do, not what they can't.
